Piano Lessons

As of January 1, 2024 I am not accepting new piano students. However please feel free to contact me for any questions or recommendations.

I teach beginner to intermediate level students, focusing on balancing technical skills with creative development. As I’ve learned throughout my musical journey, skill does not equate to passion. Therefore, I strongly value fostering a love for music within all my students by keeping lessons fun and personalized to their interests. Whether it’s playing their favorite songs for pleasure, performing classical pieces for piano competitions, or joining a pop band, I will ensure our lessons provide the knowledge and support to pursue their path.

I utilize a variety of teaching strategies in order to tailor lessons to each individual student’s learning styles. Alongside using a lesson book, I incorporate engaging games and activities that teach sight reading, rhythm, and ear training. Students will also learn how to play by rote, improvise, and perform duets. I find duets to be particularly important in my teachings in order for students to experience a connection with another musician while developing rhythmic and listening skills. Additionally, I encourage my students, even the youngest ones, to create their own pieces. Throughout the creative process, students learn to explore sounds on the piano, how to transcribe notes, and memorize an original piece that is special to them.

I hold an Elementary Pedagogy Certificate from the Royal Conservatory of Music and I’m currently majoring in Education and Media Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. I look forward to working with my students not only to help them grow as a musician, but because I’m constantly learning from them on how I can improve as a teacher.
